Frequently asked questions
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.
The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily of the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient. Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses particular attention on the subluxation. A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health. A subluxation is evaluated, diagnosed and managed through the use of chiropractic procedures based on the best available rational and empirical evidence.

How does Chiropractic help the function of the nervous system?
The nervous “nerve” system is the most important system in the body for it is what allows the brain to communicate with all the parts of body. When the spine is in proper alignment, the nervous system can effectively send messages to the parts of body for them to properly function. However, when interference (nerve pressure) due to subluxation occurs in the body, the nervous system cannot communicate with the body properly. This unhealthy function of the nervous system inhibits proper communications to reach the body parts and can result in pain and tissue injury.
Chiropractic adjustments restore the the ability of the nervous system to effectively send and receive messages to and from the body parts.
What causes neck or back pain?
Injuries due to overexertion and poor posture are among the most common reasons for getting pain but the actual cause of the pain is nerve pressure. Nerve pressure occurs when vertebra are out of place. This term given to this spinal misalignment or tightened muscle or ligament causing pressure against a nerve is called subluxation. Subluxations interfere with the function of the nervous systems sending and receiving signals between the brain and the rest of the body. In turn, this lack of proper communication among the parts and systems of the body causes tissue injury, pain or discomfort.
What does a Doctor of Chiropractic do?
A Doctor of Chiropractic is a health care provider who considers the human an integrated being but gives special attention to spinal mechanics, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular and nutritional relationships. They carefully diagnose, evaluate and deliver proper care so the body regains and maintains optimal health.

How does Chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works by restoring normal joint function through soft tissue and joint manipulation. Restoration of normal biomechanical function affects other systems of the body as well thus improving your state of health in many ways.

What education do Doctors of Chiropractic receive?
Licensed chiropractors are entitled, by law and education, to use the title of "Doctor of Chiropractic." Those who practice chiropractic are also called "Chiropractic Physician" or simply, "Chiropractor." Chiropractors receive expert knowledge of the body through the study of basic sciences, clinical sciences, body mechanics, and chiropractic techniques. The study of chiropractic emphasizes anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, biomechanics, x-ray, and spinal adjusting techniques. Why will the adjustment help me to feel better?
Nerve Pressure is the primary reason for having pain. By realigning the vertebrae we remove the pressure from the nerve and the pain goes away.
Should I get Chiropractic adjustments if I don’t have any pain?
Spinal conditions can come on immediately or can take years for the symptom to manifest. It is best to have a Chiropractic Physician check your spine to be sure there is not an underlying condition. Many people seek chiropractic care to make sure that their spine is staying in line. When you have proper alignment your body can function at it’s fullest and you may be less prone to injuries and illnesses.
Do adjustments help other joints in the body besides the spine?
Many conditions aside from spinal issues can be treated successfully with chiropractic. Many patients seek chiropractic to treat carpal tunnel syndrome, golfer's/tennis elbow, rotator cuff syndrome, sprained ankles, as well as hip and knee injuries or degeneration.
Does insurance cover Chiropractic?
Many insurance plans do cover chiropractic treatment. Each insurance plan has its own specific coverage. For this reason, we would be happy to call your insurance company for you to find out your particular coverage.
